A Blanc de Chine ‘Prunus’ teapot

Dehua kilns, Fujian Province.
The globular body delicately moulded in relief with flowering prunus branches issuing blossoms and buds, all beneath a domed cover similarly decorated with prunus sprays and surmounted by a knop finial. Covered overall in a creamy white glaze of soft ivory tone. These wares were produced for both the domestic and export markets during the Kangxi and Yongzheng periods. Comparable examples are illustrated by the Keramiekmuseum Princessehof and in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
